Move oven rack to lower position so that tops of pans will be in center of oven.
Preheat oven 350ºF (177ºC).
Grease 2 loaf pans: 8½ x 4½ x 2½ inches or 9 x 5 x 3 inches.
Mix sugar and butter in large bowl.
Stir in eggs until well blended.
Add buttermilk and vanilla. Beat until smooth.
Stir in flour, baking soda, salt, and vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly.
Add bananas. Beat until smooth.
Stir in nuts.
Stir in blueberries.
Pour into pans and smooth out mixture.
Sprinkle the ½ cup of nuts and blueberries dividing evenly on top of each loaf.
Bake in preheated 350ºF oven for 40-45 minutes or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Depending on your oven, you may want to start checking at 35 minutes.
Cool 10 minutes.
Loosen sides of loaves from pans and remove from pans.
